WASHINGTON (WLUK) -- Thousands of people marched in the nation's capital, on Friday, against abortion.

It was the "March for Life", which is held each year on or near the anniversary of the 1973 Supreme Court decision to legalize abortion.

Also in the crowd, some Wisconsinites who feel abortion should be against the law.

"Our number one priority ultimately overall is to end abortion, to make it unthinkable, to have what mothers realize that the child they're carrying is alive and a human and deserves protection like everyone else," saidJade Hrdi.

She's the communications director for Pro-Life Wisconsin. Hrdi is one of 90 people with her organization who traveled to the capital. She also talked about the atmosphere of the event.

"It's really just communal, just nice spirit around everywhere," she said.

The Catholic Diocese of Green Bay also has students at the March for Life event. It's Mark Vandenberg's fourth time joining the march.

"This is important to me because, I really value the right to life, liberty and property and the right to life really needs to happen in all stages from birth until death," saidMark Vandenberg.

Abortion proponents have another view about the march and women's rights.

"While the people marching today might believe that they're fighting for the woman's best interest, what they're really arguing for is to restrict the rights given to her by the United States constitution and that is not okay," said Eliza Cussen.

She is the executive director of the National Abortion Rights Action League Pro-Choice Wisconsin.

"We believe that a woman has control over her body including when she's pregnant," she said.

Both sides say whether it's through marches or legislation, they will continue to fight for their beliefs.
